Healthy female hippo is thriving and running around pen with her mother
Colchester zoo has been celebrating the birth of a baby pygmy hippo. The healthy female, who has yet to be named, was born on 27 November.
A spokeswoman for the Essex zoo said the hippo had grown considerably and was running around the pen with her mother, Venus.
The eight-year-old mother became resident at the zoo in 2002. Since then she had lived separately from the male, Freddy, because the animals were not usually social, the spokeswoman said.
